Fernie Sports Co. is passionate about sport and believes central to falling in love with a sport is having the right coach

For those that don’t know us, here is a little introduction to the owner/head coach that stands behind this brand; My name is Lucy Harrup, a self certified sports fanatic; “Watching sport is super fun, playing it is even better”. As a junior I was a nationally competitive tennis player and dinghy sailor. At age 15, I shifted focus to team sports and began playing National League field hockey, which I took through my university years.

My sports coaching career started with tennis around age 14. At 16 I became a certified sailing instructor and I have been lucky enough to enjoy both those sports, competing and teaching, all around the British Isles and Europe for many years.

While waiting for matches or races to start, you would find me throwing frisbees, playing soccer, anything that involved something to throw, or catch, or burnt up my energy. There were not enough hours in the day to play all the sport I wanted!

Since moving to Fernie permanently in 2007, snowboarding has become a huge part of my life.
I have now competed in Europe and Canada as a snowboarder and am still training to get better. My day job all Winter is sharing that stoke as an instructor/guide/coach up at Fernie Alpine Resort and certifying level 1 and 2 instructors for the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors.

My passion for sport was inherited from my Dad. Sadly, not with us on planet earth anymore, I am eternally grateful for the support form both my parents.  My passion for sport has helped me see the world, make great friends and I think most importantly of all, has kept me mentally and physically strong and healthy.  That, right there, is my main motivation for bringing Fernie Sports Co. to life.  To give the best possible opportunities for sport to the locals and visitors of Fernie, to enhance their quality of life.

Fernie Sports Co. is passionate about sport but central to falling in love with a sport, is having the right coach.  I have been blessed to be trained by some of the best.  With professional coaching certifications across three sports, and certifying new instructors in one sport (snowboarding) for many years, I believe, with the wealth of talent and personality in Fernie, we can bring the best coaches to you and your family who choose to train with us.

For playing in 2024, we will be offering tennis, disc golf and snowboarding. Please head on over to those pages to get more information about the programs we offer and to book.
